★★★★★

"I had zero experience — couldn't even change a puncture. Now I ride a bike I built with my own hands. The support from James and the community made all the difference."

Your Build Journey

Most builders spread this over 2–4 weekends in 2–3 hour sessions

1

2–3 hours

Unbox & Prepare

Inventory all parts against the checklist, watch the intro tutorials, familiarise yourself with tools and materials.

2

4–6 hours

Jig Setup & Tube Prep

Assemble the alignment jig, set your geometry, prepare the bamboo tubes. This is where precision matters.

3

8–12 hours

Bonding & Wrapping

The main build. Join tubes with epoxy, wrap joints with carbon fibre tow. Your frame takes shape.

4

24–48 hours

Curing

Let the epoxy cure at room temperature. No work needed — just patience. Maximum joint strength.

5

6–10 hours

Finish & Fit

Sand joints smooth, seal the bamboo, install headset and bottom bracket. Your frame is ready for components.

Common Questions

Do I need special tools?

No power tools required. Basic hand tools: hacksaw, files, sandpaper, measuring tape, and a work surface. Everything else is in the kit.

What if I make a mistake?

Most mistakes are fixable. Epoxy can be sanded and re-applied. Bamboo is forgiving. If you're stuck, our community has seen every problem — someone will have the answer within hours.

What else do I need to complete the bike?

Fork, wheels, groupset, handlebars, saddle, and finishing components. We offer component packs with everything included, or source parts from any bike shop.

How strong is a bamboo frame?

~28,000 PSI tensile strength — comparable to mild steel, but lighter. Under 1% failure rate across 4,000+ builds since 2012. Tested with Swansea University. Builders tour continents and ride daily on them.

Can I ride in the rain?

Yes. Finished frames are sealed with epoxy resin. Dry your bike after wet rides and store indoors.

How long will the frame last?

8–12 years with proper care. Many of our 2012 builds are still being ridden daily. Taro Tsuruta has been riding his for over 10 years.
