Corporate Build Donates Balance Bikes to Upcycle Brixton
In December 2024, a company completed a corporate team-building session at BBC. The session produced finished bamboo balance bikes. Those bikes were donated to Upcycle — a cycling charity in Brixton working to get more people on bikes in South London.
This is BBC's social impact logic made tangible: a corporate team pays for a workshop, learns to build together, and the product of their work goes directly to a community that needs it. Corporate team gets a meaningful experience. Charity gets bikes. Children get access to cycling.
Upcycle works to make cycling accessible in communities where cost, confidence, and culture are barriers. Bamboo balance bikes — lightweight, robust, hand-built — are exactly the kind of asset they can use.
The Upcycle donation model is one BBC can repeat with every corporate session — instead of bikes staying with the company as ornaments, they circulate into the community as tools.
