Article 25: Bamboo Bikes for Humanitarian Architecture
In 2019, BBC worked with Article 25 — a humanitarian architecture charity that uses design to improve health, livelihoods, and resilience to disasters — bringing together two organisations who believe design, craft, and making are tools for positive change.
Article 25 works in some of the world's most challenging environments, designing buildings and infrastructure for communities recovering from disaster, conflict, and poverty. BBC's bamboo construction knowledge is directly applicable in bamboo-growing regions where other structural materials are expensive or scarce.
The collaboration was a proof of concept for a deeper working relationship — demonstrating that BBC's expertise has relevance beyond recreational cycling, connecting to questions of sustainable construction and design for development.
The Article 25 partnership reflects BBC's position as a genuine social impact organisation with multiple credible institutional relationships: Investec, Big Issue Invest, TNL Community Fund, and Build to Bond.
