#650b #mtb built by Shaun

Shaun built a proper hardtail. 650b wheels wrapped in Schwalbe Wicked Will rubber, DT Swiss M1900 hoops, and a suspension fork up front that says this bike is going places the road doesn't reach.

Mountain bike bamboo builds are relatively rare in our community, which makes this one worth studying. The frame geometry shows extended reach and a slack head angle — modern trail bike numbers that let you attack descents without white-knuckling the bars.

The natural bamboo tubes stand out against brown flax fibre lugs, creating an earthy palette that suits the MTB aesthetic. Unlike road builds where contrast is king, this frame feels like it belongs in the woods already.

Wide flat bars give the leverage needed for technical terrain. The cockpit is set up short and high — an aggressive position that still keeps weight centred for steep drops. You can spot the dropper post remote near the grip, suggesting Shaun knows when to get the saddle out of the way.

What catches the eye is the setting: concrete wall, cracked pavement, dandelions pushing through. It's not the glamorous mountain backdrop you'd expect, but it feels honest. This is where bikes live between rides — leaned against urban infrastructure, waiting for the next trail day.

650b was the thinking rider's choice before 29ers dominated everything. The wheel size offers a sweet spot between rollover capability and agility, perfect for technical British singletrack where tight switchbacks meet rooty climbs.

Proper hardtail energy. Built for the trails, photographed in the real world. 🎋
