I started the build last winter and it taught me a heap of new skills as well as giving a real appreciation of how a bike is put together. I'd recommend that every keen cyclist tries it once!
"It is great that you are able to make something with your own hands using a few simple tools."
“In comparison with steel frame, you only have to glue the tube together instead of weld it. It is very easy and It is easier to get a straight frame.”
“The most fun part was planning out the geometry and setting it up on the jig, cutting the bamboo and seeing the frame come together.”
“I already own a bamboo bike which I had purchased on a trip to Ghana, and I really love it.”
“I wanted a bike that would stand out from the multitude of carbon super bikes that all look the same when they are whizzing past you.”
“The additional understanding I gained from the process, along with the 100% custom built for me by me bike is not something you can buy in a shop!”
“Half a day is spent measuring and rough fitting the tubes, the other half double checking, tweaking and gluing it all together...I'd advise other builders to mask around the carbon lugs so you can use your finger to rub the adhesive around the joint leaving a neat glue line”
“I was in the market for a new gravel bike but also wanted something to focus on during lockdown and building my own bamboo frame ticked both boxes ... It's one of the most rewarding things I've done.”
