Really interesting build by @salixrobotspencerjenkins. A #clunker #singlespeed.
A clunker single speed. Not what most people build, but exactly what @salixrobotspencerjenkins wanted.
The perspective here is dramatic — head-on, low angle, those fat knobby tyres dominating the frame. You can almost feel the grip they'd provide on loose surfaces.
Clunkers were the original mountain bikes, cobbled together by Marin County riders in the 1970s before the industry caught up. This build channels that spirit: rigid fork, flat bars, balloon tyres, single gear. No suspension, no gears, no complications.
The golden bamboo tubes look almost bronze in this light. The lugs have that textured finish that comes from hand-wrapping and careful finishing. Grass beneath, hedge behind, summer afternoon light catching everything.
Single speed simplifies the riding experience. You have what you have. Hills hurt, flats flow, descents are gravity's gift. The direct connection between effort and speed is honest in a way geared bikes can't match.
Building something outside the mainstream takes confidence. Most people want what everyone else has. This builder wanted something different. The result is genuinely interesting. 🌲
