What's Inside the Flax Gravel Frame Build Kit
Before there's a bike, there's a box — and everything you need to build a complete bamboo gravel frame, laid out flat.
What's in the box
- Pre-cut bamboo tubes, marked with BBC stickers so you know what goes where
- LB2 laminating bio-resin — a two-part epoxy system with a high plant-derived content,
supplied as a working resin and a separate hardener
- Flax fibre cloth for wrapping the joints
- A laser-cut jig / template board that keeps your frame's geometry true throughout the
build
- The metal hardware — bottom bracket shell, headtube, dropouts, cable guides,
chainstay yoke, and bagged bolts and screws
- Structural adhesive, a step-by-step build manual, and your frame spec sheet
It's a serious kit, not a toy.
Why flax instead of carbon
The flax fibre cloth is what sets this kit apart. Instead of wrapping the joints in carbon fibre, you wrap them in flax — a natural plant fibre that laminates with bio-resin to make joints that are strong and naturally vibration-damping, the quality that makes bamboo such a comfortable ride over gravel and long distances. Bamboo and flax together also make for a frame that's largely bio-based and recyclable.
It's part of why a BBC bamboo frame is one of the lowest-carbon frames you can own: an independently verified lifecycle analysis (2024) found a BBC frame produces **56.7% less CO₂ than its aluminium equivalent** across the full production cycle.
What the photo doesn't show
What happens next: someone laying all this out on a workbench, reading through the manual, measuring twice, and starting to build. That's where the kit ends and the builder begins.
The bamboo is selected for wall thickness and straightness, the metal parts are machined to close tolerances, and the jig holds your geometry true — so you can focus on the craft: the wrapping, the finishing, and the satisfaction of watching a frame take shape in front of you.
