In the summer of 2020, Roelof came with a friend to a weekend workshop not only to build a frame but also to do a second workshop to finish his frame and convert it to his unique commuter bike.

What made you decide to build a bamboo bike?

Aesthetically and functionally, I think the bicycle is one of the most beautiful inventions! You can of course buy a bicycle but designing and building one yourself is a very special thing to do.

What was the most challenging part of the build?

The hardest part was assembling all the parts. This requires some patience and technical knowledge. Of course others can help you with this.

Would you recommend a weekend workshop?

It's great fun to make something yourself and then drive it around yourself! And you don't have to be very handy to still achieve a nice end result.

How does your bike ride?

Awesome! He cycles lightly. And bamboo gives the bicycle a great deal of stiffness. Something I had not thought beforehand. I cycle to the office with it every day.

What has been the best experience so far while riding your bamboo bike?

I am sometimes approached by people on the street. When I tell them that I made the bike myself, they are of course very impressed 😊
