Build by one of school which we work with in #thehague one of the completed bike of the produced. #b
One of the completed bikes from our school programme in The Hague. A student standing proud with something she helped create.
The Dutch understand cycling infrastructure and culture better than almost anywhere. Teaching young people to build bikes in this context means they appreciate the craft behind what they ride daily. The Netherlands has more bikes than people; now one of them has a story attached.
The build is practical Dutch style. Front rack for bags and panniers. Flat bars for urban manoeuvrability. Sensible gearing for a country famously without hills. This isn't a performance machine — it's daily transport, built by student hands.
That navy blazer and the park setting suggest this photo was taken on completion day. The transition from workshop student to bike owner, captured in a single frame. The canal or pond behind adds the water that appears in every Dutch scene.
School programmes extend our reach beyond adult workshops. Young builders bring different energy, different questions, different approaches. They also carry the skills forward — this student will understand bicycles differently for life.
The Hague gave us another builder. The builder gave The Hague another bamboo bike. Fair exchange. 🇳🇱
