road.cc filmed Dave building a bamboo bike — the build video series
Back in 2018, the cycling site road.cc put one of our kits to the test the honest way: they had their own Dave Atkinson build a bamboo road bike from scratch and film every step.
It became a multi-part video series, running roughly weekly from April into May 2018 — starting with building the jig, through the sanding and the joints, painting it up to (almost) match the road.cc kit colours, and finishing with a first ride out and the goal of lining up for a 3rd-category race. road.cc summed it up when the bike was done:
"After much sanding and some swears, our Dave has finally got his bamboo bike up and running. And do you know what? it looks pretty cool."
— road.cc, "Building a bamboo bike part 6: time for a ride!", 25 May 2018
That's exactly what we're after: a genuine first-timer, no shortcuts, building a real road bike from one of our home kits and then riding it. No frame-building experience required — just a bit of patience and a weekend or two.
