What do you guys think of this build by Reed in the USA? It’s a 29er with drops.
Reed in the USA built this 29er with drops. An unusual combination that works better than you might expect.
The proportions are striking. Big 29-inch wheels with gum-wall tyres. Drop bars where you'd normally see flat bars. The result is a bike that handles trail features with road-bike hand positions — the best of both worlds for certain riders.
Those lugs show what looks like natural hemp or flax wrapping. Earthy, textured, organic. Against the New Mexico architecture in the background — adobe walls, that distinctive Southwest palette — the bike fits its environment.
American builders often push boundaries we wouldn't consider in Europe. Different terrain, different cycling culture, different ideas about what a bike should be. Reed looked at mountain bike geometry and road bike cockpits and asked 'why not both?'
The suburban setting is deceptively calm. Those hills in the distance promise proper riding. The Southwest offers desert trails, mountain passes, roads that climb for miles. This bike looks ready for all of it.
Home builds let you make choices the industry doesn't offer. Drops on a 29er. Why not? 🏜️
