Matt's fat bike built from a home build kit, photographed somewhere in the American winter. Those massive tyres leave their mark in the snow.
Fat bikes exist for conditions like this. The wide rubber floats over snow that would bury normal tyres. The aggressive tread bites into surfaces that offer nothing to grip. Matt built his frame knowing these trails awaited.
The brown finish blends with the winter grass surrounding the trail. Natural bamboo against natural landscape — the colours belong together even in cold.
Snow riding demands specific commitment. Cold hands, frozen water bottles, the constant adjustment of layers. But the silence of winter trails rewards those who persist. No crowds, no heat, just the crunch of snow under rubber.
Home build kits for fat bikes require wider dropouts, larger tube clearances, different geometry than standard frames. Matt assembled all those considerations and produced something that handles this terrain properly.
The tyre tracks leading to where the bike stands tell the story of the ride before this photo. Matt rode here, stopped to capture the moment, and presumably rode on. Winter doesn't stop everyone. ❄️
