Peter built his road bike over four days and immediately started planning night rides. There's something about building your own bike that makes you want to use it in ways that feel slightly mad.
The setup shows a rider who values comfort over pure speed: flat bars for an upright position, Brooks leather saddle that'll only get better with miles, tan wall tyres that reference cycling's golden age while delivering modern performance.
The frame itself uses natural bamboo with dark flax fibre lugs — the classic combination that works equally well in sunlight or streetlight. That's relevant when your riding plans involve darkness.
What strikes you about this image is the weather. Wet streets, grey sky, corten steel panels on the building behind — quintessential British conditions. Peter's standing there in a hoodie and jeans, unbothered. This is a rider who doesn't check the forecast; they just ride.
Night riding changes everything. Empty roads, different sounds, the beam of your light revealing each corner as you reach it. It demands trust in your equipment and yourself. Building your own bike creates exactly that kind of trust — you know every joint, every cable, every bolt.
Four days from start to finish sounds quick, but our workshop format is intensive. Full days of cutting, wrapping, sanding, waiting, repeating. By the end you've earned both the bike and the fatigue.
Ready for the dark hours. Ride safe, Peter. 🌙
