Frank's bamboo build: outstanding, amazing, and surprising

Frank built a bamboo bicycle from one of our home-build kits, and his verdict says everything we want a first ride to feel like.

What Frank built

A flat-bar bamboo bike with golden bamboo tubes, black lugs and fork, and gum-wall tyres — finished off with the "Bamboo Bicycle Club" wordmark on the down tube. Like every kit build, the frame was made by hand from raw bamboo and natural-fibre joints.

What we did

We don't sell finished bikes — we teach people to build them. Frank worked from a BBC kit and our tutorials to make the frame himself, then built it up into a complete, rideable bike.

The outcome, in Frank's words

"The bike is outstanding, amazing, and surprising. Went out with a big smile."

That feeling — the first ride on something you made yourself — is the whole point. We can supply the materials, teach the technique, and guide the process. The grin when you push off is yours.

Why it matters

Since 2012, more than 4,000 people in over 36 countries have built their own bamboo bicycles with us. Frank's build is one of them: proof that a hand-built bamboo frame isn't a novelty — it's a bike people are genuinely proud to ride.
