Lovely road bike built by Phil as a home build #roadbike.
Golden hour, winter hedgerow, and a road bike that catches every ray of fading light.
Phil built this at home, and the finishing choices show real thought. Those olive-toned lugs complement the natural bamboo rather than fighting it. The Brooks saddle and brown bar tape bring warmth. The reflective wheel rims — catching the low sun — add sparkle without flashiness.
This is classic British countryside cycling. The hedgerow is dormant, the fields beyond are green even in winter, and the light is doing that thing it does when the sun gets low and everything turns amber. Perfect conditions for a ride, and perfect conditions for a photo.
The frame itself shows clean execution. Home builds require learning as you go, but Phil clearly got everything right. The proportions look correct, the joints look solid, and the overall aesthetic is cohesive.
There's something about winter riding that feels more deliberate than summer miles. You have to want to be out there. The cold, the short days, the mud — none of it stops proper cyclists. Phil's clearly one of them.
Building a road bike from bamboo takes confidence. The performance demands are high. Phil trusted the materials, trusted the process, and ended up with something worth photographing in perfect light. 🌅
