Gravel Bike by Rob
What made you decide to build a bamboo bike?
I enjoyed reading about someone building a bike kit on a cycle forum and thought it would be enjoyable to have a go myself.
Did you enjoy building the bicycle from scratch and would you recommend the experience?
I had a great time, just doing a bit at a time when the weather was poor, and yes I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone who likes a little challenge.
What did you find most difficult about your bike build?
After reading one of your blogs about making sure the rear triangle was square I double checked mine and found it was well out and had to re-make a seat stay, luckily I checked after tacking the joints only!
What was the easiest part of the build?
I think it was all relatively easy as long as you took your time.
How would you describe the ride of your finished bike?
The ride is really better than I thought it would be. I bought a donor bike of eBay and it's no heavier than the original and I'd say smoother....
What would you improve about the build experience or your finished bike?
I think maybe some more tips from from everyone who has finished a home build would be great, especially what tools/equipment they used to help with the build and what/where components were sourced from. Tip - I bought a Silverline Sanding Drum Set from Toolstation and it saved lots of hand sanding.
