What made you decide to build a bamboo bike?
Wanted a challenge and to improve bike maintenance skills.
Did you enjoy building the bicycle from scratch and would you recommend the experience?
I really enjoyed it. Was tricky and made a fair few mistakes spent a lot of time thinking about how I was going to approach the next stage.
Land's End to John o' Groats 1400KM ride
What did you find most difficult about your bike build?
Cutting the rear stay - I had a blind spot over the angle to cut at. Was physically tough (all that sanding. Wish I'd bought Dremel sooner. Also I fixed wheel at wrong angle and back wheel rubbed. Had to take off epoxy and re-do. Fitting out was tricky name had physical trouble screwing BB into shell.
What was the easiest part of the build?
I was surprised that wrapping the joints was quite easy - very messy but quite easy.
What advice would you give to other bamboo bike builders and what would you improve if anything?
Read my blog on how I built it https://bambooshkabike.blogspot.com Just go for it - you'll learn loads about bike maintenance. I recommend you cannibalise an old bike to keep costs down.
How would you describe the ride of your finished bike?
I love it. I am proud of it whenever I ride it. It's my favourite bike by far. And I love the comments. I managed to do LEJOG (1400Km ride) on it - it was harder for me than the bike.
