Becca's Commuter bike
What made you decide to build a bamboo bike?
I really wanted to have a new bike after my old one got stolen and found this workshop over research. I love the look and the idea of a bike made of bamboo, but also the idea of building it yourself within a workshop.
Did you enjoy building the bicycle from scratch and would you recommend the experience?
Yes, definitely. It's not as difficult as I expected, but interesting enough to be everything but not boring. Ultimately its about building your very own bike.
What did you find most difficult about your bike build?*
Come up with a design/ personalized design. And putting the tyres on :-)
What was the easiest part of the build?
Following each of the steps- easy explained, easy to perform.
How would you describe the ride of your finished bike?*
Still a bit unusual, but in a good way. It's lighter than I expected, but it's rattling a little. Will observe.
What would you improve about the build experience or your finished bike?*
Better guidance of time frames, e.g. selecting the tubes ~xx min, cutting and shaping them xx min. To get an idea and to allow enough time to focus on finishes. I think a design guide would be really helpful, e.g. a b/w template of the frames to colour up (digitally or hard copy), and a list of options with pictures of what is possible (e.g. grinded surface, ungrinded surface, gloss, matte finish spray, colours, stencils, writings, paint, accessories, etc.) Partly, replaced tools (some screwdrivers were a bit rounded, which made it hard to tighten some connections up etc.) Sticker on the drawers to find the right tools- already in place, so that's really cool! Will send the photos separately in an e-mail, when I have my phone replaced.
