In the universe are billions of galaxies,In our galaxy are billions of planets,But there is Only One Earth.
I use my bike every day for commuting, so I decided to build one from Bamboo Bicycle kit to see if this was something I could enjoy.
We designed our new club jerseys in collaboration with a brilliant sportswear company 'Presca' who are the first climate positive sports brand in the world. You can register your interest in our next design.
I’m an amateur woodworker and have been dreaming about building a wood bike frame for many years. After researching bamboo’s characteristics and relative weight ease to work with, I decided to use it as the medium for my first scratch-made frame build.
it was very tranquilising working on it, and also rewarding when done. Watching all the parts and components come together at the end was the cherry on the cake!
Outstanding, amazing and surprising. Went out with a big smile and couldn't believe how good the frame is on the road.
Making the flax/epoxy lugs was one of the most difficult parts. I tried to plan out wrapping the lugs and even practiced the wrapping pattern with some dry fabric ahead of time……
i really enjoyed the build, i would say take your time getting all the bamboo to fit prperly together with the other sections of bamboo and the headstock and boottom bracket shell.
I thought about building a bamboo bike since some years but found no time before ending my sporty career in paralympic sports (cycling and snowboarding)
Putting the frame together was surprisingly straight forward, though i'm well aware that a lot of work has gone on in the background to ensure that the length and angles are right for each builder.
Loved the build process. Loved the problem solving element, especially the tyre clearance on the chainstays. I could have been a bit braver here to be honest, but happy with result. Comfortably fits a 2.2 tyre.
I found it very satisfying and cant think of any change that might improve it.
I took it down my usual test ride route which is an unmaintained road along a canal. Never felt the usual road noise through my body which made the bike unbelievably nippy.
It rides like tractor ;-) It's very smooth and it has some kind of suspension due to the very low tire pressure of 0,5 bar. The frame feels very sturdy and I enjoy every minute on the bike!
