Elizabeth's Custom Touring Bike

What made you decide to build a bamboo bike?

I love the idea of doing something different and building something unique. I'm also much more comfortable working with wood/cane and bindings than metal.

Did you enjoy building the bicycle from scratch and would you recommend the experience?

Absolutely!

What did you find most difficult about your bike build?

Carving neat shapes in the bamboo where it meets the metal inserts, especially around the bottom bracket.

What was the easiest part of the build?

I very much enjoyed doing the hemp wrappings and felt in my element with that.

How would you describe the ride of your finished bike?

Comfortable ad sturdy. Good power transfer and low rolling resistance make it faster than I expected.

What would you improve about the build experience or your finished bike?

I wish I'd started a month or too sooner than I did and had more time to do a neater job and to do more of the work myself.
