What made you decide to build a bamboo bike?
Was thinking for a while about a different bike to use on weekend rides. When on Facebook one day bamboo bikes popped up, when I looked into it was fascinated by them. Sustainability, how they rode.
Did you enjoy building the bicycle from scratch and would you recommend the experience?
I loved the 2 day course, talking with James over different ideas Before the weekend and during the course. Finally finishing the bike and riding it for the first time was such a great feeling as its something you made by hand. Would definitely recommend building a bamboo bike to anyone.
What did you find most difficult about your bike build?
Was hard to decide on what kind of frame I wanted at first, But good advice from James soon sorted that out. Building the frame was more straightforward than I thought, hardest part of build was the finishing and fitting of components (I'm very fussy). Would have liked more time in workshop looking back, but again talking with James all the issues I had was sorted. Only thing I would change looking back now, is having components already so you can build to them. Rather trying to find components to fit what you have made.
How would you describe the ride of your finished bike?
It rides way better than I expected, smooth and comfy takes away the harshness of the roads. I've not ridden my carbon bike since finishing it!
What was the easiest part of the build?
Picking the bamboo tubes at the beginning, I was very excited and picked a down tube with a node rib right where the front derailleur sits.
