Design: Gravel Frame and fork
Build: Gravel Flax Kit
Location: Vermont, USA
What made you decide to build a bamboo bike?
I really wanted a gravel bike for the shoulder season here in Vermont. While looking for used frames online I think I stubbled digitally stumbled upon bamboo bikes, which I didn’t even know existed. I was instantly intrigued.

Did you enjoy building the bicycle from scratch and would you recommend the experience?
It was a real labor of love. Took longer than I planned, but now that I look back on it, I would definitely do it again and recommend to others.
What did you find most difficult about your bike build?
The rear triangle. I had make some of my own jig parts to get the wheel spacing to work right. I also struggled with clearance of the chainring and the chain stays.

How would you describe the ride of your finished bike?
It’s super awesome. I was only a mtn biker before I built my bamboo bike. Now I split my time between both mtn and road.
What would you improve about the build experience or your finished bike?
I would have to say I wish I could have rented/bought the tube cutter jig.
