Seasons Greetings from London
2013 has been another huge year for Bamboo Bicycle Club with nearly 100 frames being built to date from our base in Hackney Wick. Frame builders from Bristol to Inverness, Toronto to Mumbai have been keeping us incredibly busy over the last 12 months and we have seen some fantastic frames take to the road check out hall of frames Next year sees the highly anticipated launch of our home-build kits for people who prefer a good old garden shed project or cannot make the trip to our London workshop.
Life and Bamboo
For an insight into what life is like with a bamboo bike, we interviewed Daniel O’Connor, who boarded a flight to his adopted home of Mumbai hours after his build-day in October. He is now exploring one of the world’s most dynamic cities on his hand-made stead – to read more check out the blog
Next year we have loads planned already as we ramp up the community aspect of The Club. Bamboo or not, please feel free to attend any of the following events, but do let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are coming so we have some idea of numbers!
James and Ian, along with 20 bamboo builders and their bikes filmed a short documentary earlier this year. We’ll be screening the film for the first time in our new Hackney Wick workshop, and we’ll lay-on some drinks and scran to keep us warm!
Let us know your coming
Save this date – bamboo bike or not, we’ll be welcoming-in spring’s longer days with a group ride though London. The plan is to head from our base in Hackney Wick to Richmond-on-Thames – all are welcome! We’ll undoubtedly stop at a watering hole as we get out West, of course.
This ‘turn-up and go’ overnight ride from Hackney to the Suffolk coast has fast become a recurring entry in the diaries of cycling enthusiasts and is a must-do. Let us know if you are taking part and we can meet up before and after. Club founders James and Ian completed the gruelling 120km on single-speed bamboo frames in 2013, bumping into a couple of Club members along the way!
